     Sherwood
Sherwood is located in Nottinghamshire

  • Sherwood was originally open common land and primarily used by people for agricultural purpose to grow food and feed the increasing population in Nottingham. Such as, allotments gardens were used to grow food.
  • In 1814 Sherwood expanded from few houses to sizeable community with the principle occupations such as, lace-makers, servants, agricultural and framework knitter’s labourer.
  • In 1850s a number of allotment were lost because the land was sold off for building development [industrial and housing buildings]. However, Bagthorpe gardens [city hospital now] still there today.
  • Sherwood is predominantly owned by white working class and wealthy people.
